India will mount major diplomatic offensive against terrorism and Pakistan : Goa : On Sunday, BRICS summit will start in Goa and the bilateral meeting between Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday, China on Friday cancelled its plenary at the BRICS Business Forum 2016 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
According to certain approximate, BRICS constitutes nearly half of the world population, one-third of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and close to one-fifth of the world’s trade. The grouping has three heavyweights — China, Russia and India, that practically controls the region, both politically and economically and is seen as an Eastern power centre. The point of main highlighting these statistic is to say how critical is the summit slated to be held in Goa on 15, 16 October to the region and the Western world.
BRICS NATIONS REPRESENT OVER 3.6 BILLION PEOPLE
The five BRICS countries represent over 3.6 billion people, or half of the world population and they have a combined GDP of USD 16.6 trillion.
India is likely to push for unity among the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) members to remove the logjam at the UN on the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) for effectively dealing with terror. Initiated by India, the CCIT is stuck at the UN due to lack of agreement among its members about the definition of terrorism.
